What Writer is
Writer is a Writer server and a browser extension. The extension shows a side panel where you write blog posts with AI help, and it fills your own site's publish form. The server keeps your data and calls the AI providers that the account owner configures.
What the extension reads and sends
- The extension runs only on sites that you add. Chrome or Firefox asks you for access to each site. You can remove the access in the side panel at any time.
- On those sites it reads the address of the current tab and the fields of the publish form that you choose (for example title, description, slug and body).
- When you publish, it reads the final values of those fields and sends them to your Writer server, so Writer can store the final text and learn from your edits.
- It sends your ideas, interview answers and edits to your Writer server. It sends nothing to any other server.
- It keeps your login token, the form recipes of your sites, and the last 20 captured posts in the browser's extension storage.
What the Writer server keeps
- Your account: email address, name and a hash of your password.
- Your sites, voices, lessons, posts, interview answers, drafts, review notes, captured final texts and imported archive posts.
- Provider API keys, encrypted (AES-256-GCM).
- Login sessions and extension tokens, stored as hashes.
AI providers
To write questions, plans, drafts and reviews, the server sends your material to the AI providers set in Settings (Anthropic and OpenAI by default): your idea, answers, plan, drafts, voice profile, lessons, and excerpts of your archive posts as writing samples. Their own privacy terms apply to that data.
What Writer does not do
- No advertising, no analytics, no tracking across sites.
- No sale or sharing of data with anyone other than the AI providers above.
- No access to pages of sites that you did not add.
Your control
- Remove a site's access in the side panel ("Remove access"), or in the browser's extension settings.
- Disconnect the extension in Writer Settings; its token stops working at once.
- Delete posts, sites, archive posts and lessons in the Writer web app.
- To delete your account, write to the operator of your Writer server.
